Scrap Processor

Scrap processors

Scrap processors cut, shear, bale, and shred the scrap they have purchased to sort, clean, size, and densify it and make it into a saleable product suitable for re-melting by steel mills and foundries. Scrap processors are considered manufacturers. They are not arranging for the disposal of waste, but are transforming (discarded) materials using sophisticated equipment to make products that meet defined specifications. Scrap processors in the USA produced 58,300,000 tons of scrap in 2003, from a combination of obsolete and industrial sources.
